Lauren Combs,  WAL President

Our studio space is now fully functional and we are busily scheduling events, workshops , and classes! Most Friday afternoons will be reserved for an Open Studio, which will include a new pastel group. Jilan Chew has agreed to help us manage the studio, and members who attended the last meeting will be pleased that she will be generously sharing her love of pastels with those who wish to bring their materials and draw, paint, or just hang out in good company!

The Art Outlet, our newest sponsor,  on I45N is celebrating their 5th anniversary by hosting an art exhibit and reception, showcasing the work of five WAL artists. This is just the initial event of what we hope will be an on-going relationship between the Scruggs' and WAL, and we are looking forward to having other artists exhibit and perhaps demo here...solo or in small groups. The reception will feature door prizes and wine and hors d'oeuvres, as well as the art and information on all that WAL offers. The reception is Monday, March 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM...come by to check out the place, meet the owners, and register for prizes!

The City of Magnolia is having an art stroll on May 13th from 3-7 PM. Booths are available for $35. Please contact David Lapaglia for further information and to reserve your booth.: dlapaglia5@gmail.com

Please check below for news on our Spring Judged Show! We have few entries, largely because it is so early this year, but registration must be completed not later than noon on March 12th. Please list and enter your work on the LSAG database then return to the WAL website to pay the fees. Volunteers for set up, check in, take down, and hospitality are still needed. The volunteer registration will be found on the events page.

We are really excited about our growing relationship with the Woodlands Arts Council, which has led to enhanced opportunities for volunteering at the WWAF, as well the possibility for mutually beneficial events throughout the year. WAL members have until March 3rd to get their choice of volunteer spots before it is open to the general public! If you wish to demo or paint plein air or portrait please contact Hilda Rueda at hildalockley@hotmail.com. All others please use the official WWAF Volunteer Hub.

Our general meeting will be March 23rd and will feature noted artist, Lesley Humphrey. Save the date...come at 6:30 for the meet and greet, and after brief announcements, watch Lesley demonstrate her amazing painting techniques! Bring a friend...free and open to the public. Go to her website for information on Lesley and more examples of her wonderful work! www.lesleyhumphrey.net or visit her Facebook page :  https://www.facebook.com/lesleychumphrey

The next two months are going to be packed with opportunities for art and fun! Please join a group, volunteer for an event, paint or sculpt up a storm! We have a number of new members to welcome into our community and even more opportunities on the horizon! Please reach out to us if you have ideas and questions or wish to volunteer.

Thanks to you all!

Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival

Volunteer Hub OPEN for volunteer positions! WAL members only through our link until March 3rd - grab your choice spot now!

Not only is this one of our biggest fund-raisers, it is a terrific way to get involved in bringing art to our community and to take advantage of the creative energy generated by hundreds of artists! Help with our community painting project, created in partnership with Cassidy Joined for Hope, an organization formed to address teen suicide, pass out information about WAL and local arts to festival goers, demo your techniques, paint with a group, or choose a more traditional position - helping check in artists, for example. Each volunteer will get an official Tshirt, and a pass to the festival. And, our undying gratitude, as your work helps WAL fund our programs for the next year!

See the link below:

http://wal.woodlandsartsfestival.volunteerhub.com/

Past volunteers do not need to re-register on the hub, just sign up for shifts. New volunteers need to complete the registration, making sure that WAL is your designated Charity Partner!
