General Meeting, January 2017 - Housewarming Party!
Join us to view and celebrate our new work space! On Thursday, January 26th, WAL will officially open our new home in Studio in the Woods on Budde Rd to our members and guests at 6:30 PM until 10:30..more or less
Bring a dish to add to our potluck supper buffet, or the beverage of your choice, ideas for arranging and decorating...perhaps a piece of your art to add to our blank walls!
We will be working on a collaborative painting to hang above our doors so don't get toooo gussied up...or perhaps bring an apron if you do. Tallon Chalmer's dulcimer group, the Lone Star Strummers, will be there to entertain us. There will be door prizes, a raffle, and silent auction and, as always, great company and high spirits to light up the dark winter night.
Please RSVP to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know who and what you will be bringing to help us plan.
Please note that the date of our judged show has been pushed ahead to mid-March due to new LSAG deadlines on show dates and data entry - it is now in mid-March rather than late April or early May. No time like the present to set aside time each to work on your entries!
The last two meetings have been hands-on and from them has come a revived interest in Art Trading Cards and a new group. Thanks to Cindy Johnson for organizing the WAL ATC Group, which will meet monthly on the second Thursday evenings.
Next week we will be needing a few good people...with a truck or van...to move the heavier or larger items from the last storage unit. One is already empty and small items are being moved car load by carload, but we have cabinets, easels, and some bulky items left. Please contact me by email or text if you...or someone who owes you a favor!...can help.
I am sure there is much more to tell, but I have been recovering from the dreaded Winter Cold. I will be in better shape...and back home...soon and by the party I will be a font of useful information, I promise, but for now, please read the blurbs below and bear with me! I hope to see a lot of you at our party.
Wishing Everyone A Happy and Joyfully Creative 2017!

|Adult & Children's Art Classes|
Kids' Painting classes are about to resume! Jilan Chew is offering Kids' Painting and Fine Art in Wednesday afternoons and evenings in Suzanne Hayes' old time slot! Please contact her email@example.com if your child is looking for a class and let neighbors, coworkers, and friends know about these (and ALL) WAL classes!
I am now working on our winter to spring class schedule. If you are an instructor, please send me your schedule as soon as possible. Before scheduling a class please look at our on-going and fall schedule on the website. It is WAL's policy to encourage the careers of its instructors but we do reserve the right to disallow direct competition with established classes. If you want to teach in a medium that already hasestablished instructors and classes, please consider offering a different "take", such as teaching still life or florals as opposed to a general painting course. In our opinion, this will encourage students to branch out and try new subjects. When scheduling classes and venues those who have taught the past season will have first choice for the next session, then we will schedule on a first come first served basis. Our new space means that we will be able to offer morning and weekend classes again., but we would prefer to keep kids' classes in the community center. Instructors will also have to option to using outside classrooms, such as the community center, Northwoods Church, or their own studios.
Drawing the Portrait with Juan Cantavella
Beginning on February 8th, Juan will be offering two ten-week courses on drawing for portraits. These classes will be small - 4 people maximum per session - one during the day and the second in the evenings. More information can be found on our website under the Events/calendar tab.
Gary Hernandez continues to offer oil painting twice per week, and I also and continuing on with Acrylic Painting and Mixed Media Tuesdays. I may offer a second class Saturdays now that we have a new space as several people have asked for a class for working people!
We are fortunate to be able to offer a wide spectrum of classes to our community, but are looking for more. Contact me if you are interested in sharing your skills with others, or if you know of someone who is qualified!
For more information on all these classes, please check the website; information will be added as it is received.
|Publicity and Social Media|
Start Spreading the News!
Please send any art league or member related news, updates, community events for advertising in WAL's social media to firstname.lastname@example.org
We are in dire need of one or three people who will take on one or more aspects of publicizing our doings. If you can give just a couple hours a week helping get the word out through social media like Facebook, the newsletter or e-blasts, LSAG blog, or even press releases to local news outlets, please let me know! Until we get help, I'm afraid you will be having to put up with me...and I can get over-booked and miss chances to really get the news out to our community about what we all can offer.
