For our first meeting of 2019 we invite you all to come play with pan pastels. Jilan Chew will guide us all while we learn about this highly pigmented, non-traditional form of pastels which are applied to the surface with a variety of tools and brushes, and can be used with other mediums as well as hard and soft pastels.

Meetings are free and open to the public so bring a friend!

Refreshments and greetings at 6:30, followed by brief announcements about future plans, including updates on the  Feb 9th judged show, Plein Air workshop with Suzie Baker, and the Waterway Arts Festival.

Hands-on program will begin immediately after announcements.

Wednesday Afternoon Open Studio Dates

Jan. 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th

Drop in any time between 1 PM and 4 PM to work on projects, get advice, borrow a book, or just relax and get inspired! We ask for $2 donation for studio supplies

Wednesday Jan. 23rd "Focus on Gel Printing!" Bring your supplies and Gel plate and lets print! WAL members $5, non-members $10 for this guided session,  or do your own work. You will need to provide a gelli, Gel, or home-made gelatin plate (email Lauren for recipe and instructions!), fluid type paints...inexpensive craft paints work well, a brayer, odds and ends of papers, mark-making materials, and stencils and/or stamps. Many extras available in our mixed-media box.

We have a great supply of old books, misic, opera librettos, etc for members to use!

Drawing and Painting with Tom LaRock is a class that is designed to help the artist of any level to improve their skill and understanding of of drawing and painting.  Emphasis is on understanding and developing each artist's ability to create drawings and paintings enjoyably with accuracy.  Developing the artist's understanding of drawing technique is essential for creating all types of art and this class will explore various methods of drawing with pencil and paint.  

Tom will begin each class with 15 to 30 minutes of demonstration, Q&A, and/or discussion of a different topic each week about drawing and or painting.

Acrylic And Mixed Media with Lauren Combs

Cost: $100.00 for 4 sessions,  supplies not included 

Individual classes are $30.00 

Intro to Acrylics package - all materials included - 3 classes for $100


Using a limited palette this (very) relaxed course will introduce  color mixing and the basic properties of acrylic paints and use of mediums to add texture and special effects to your work.

Adults over 21  bring your beverage of choice and snack if desired.

 Supplies not included, list available from instructor.

Saturday Life Drawing 


January Saturday mornings  5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th

Studio in the Woods, 26002 Budde Rd, 77380

Sessions will begin at 10:00am and last until 1:00 pm, Composed of one 20 min warm-up and five 20 min poses with 10 min breaks in between. Doors will open at 9:30 am for attendees to set up their creative space, socialize, and get familiar with the set, props, and model. 

Be advised, sessions will include both male and female models with varying degrees of cover, from fully clothed, to draped, and nude.

All media are welcome and the session is open to all WAL members. Guests are permitted to attend a single session. We ask that each participant contribute payment for the model and cover studio fees. 

$10/ per Participant 

$15/ per Guest Participant (first visit)

$20/ for Each participant who would like personal instruction/guidance during the session.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies but tables chairs and saddle benches will be available. Everything first come first served. 

Doors will open at 9:30am for people to socialize and set up their creative space. The stage, props and model will be introduced during this time.

We will begin at 10:00am with a 20min warm up session followed by a ten minute break. 

{The warm up will be formatted in quick succession poses of two 30sec and a 1min active pose. Followed by a 3min and a 5min standing pose. Finally, we will end with two 5min sitting/laying poses.}

The rest of the sessions will be of a continual pose in five 20min increments with 10min breaks in between.

Lastly there will be an optional group discussion and open floor critique as the room is set back in order.
