October General Meeting
Eggshell Mosaic Hands-On Demo by Lauren Combs
Mosaic art is one of the oldest type of crafts that is still very popular today, with seashells, eggshells and pebbles of all sizes being used to keep this skill alive. The Japanese call it "rankaku" and use black and red laquer, often on bowls or boxes. The basic techniques can be used on bottle aand vases, ornaments and other home decor items or create fine art such as that below made by Linda Biggers. Visit her website (or Google) for more amazing examples!
Bring 2 cleaned white eggshells (we will have extra if you forget). Remove inner membrane; soaking for an hour in water will help loosen it if it is stubborn, or you can just wet and rub the last bits. If you have tweezers, you may find them helpful, as would be an exacto knife...but we can make do without. We will provide a surface, glue, paints, and enthusiastic if not expert guidance!
